Children and adolescents do not always find it easy to put their inner experiences into words. When a young person is struggling, emotions may show up through behaviour, mood changes, withdrawal, anxiety, school difficulties, or shifts in confidence. Play therapy provides a gentle, supportive space where feelings and experiences can be explored in ways that feel natural and safe.
At The Misneach Centre, play therapy offers a respectful and developmentally attuned approach that supports emotional wellbeing, resilience, and self-understanding.
Play therapy may support young people experiencing:
Anxiety, worries, or emotional overwhelm
Changes in mood, behaviour, or confidence
School-related stress or pressures
Friendship or social difficulties
Family transitions or significant life changes
Grief, loss, or upsetting experiences
Emotional outbursts or withdrawal
Difficult feelings they struggle to explain
Support can be helpful whenever a young person appears unsettled, distressed, or not quite themselves.
How Play Therapy Works
Play and creative expression are natural forms of communication for young people. Rather than relying solely on conversation, play therapy allows thoughts and emotions to be explored through creative, expressive, and age-appropriate methods. This reduces pressure and helps young people feel safe while engaging in therapy.
Sessions are guided by the child or adolescent’s comfort and readiness. There is never pressure to discuss anything they are not ready to share. At the same time, the work is thoughtfully structured and guided by professional training, with regular review points to reflect on progress and next steps.
Seeking support for your child or teenager can feel like a significant decision. Play therapy offers a calm, supportive environment where young people are met with warmth, patience, and understanding. Where appropriate, parents and guardians are supported in understanding emotional responses and relational patterns, always with the young person’s wellbeing at the centre of care.
All enquiries are private and confidential.
