The Misneach Centre – Couples Therapy Agreement

Welcome to The Misneach Centre. Our intention is to provide a safe, respectful, and professionally guided therapeutic space for both partners.

Nature of Couples Therapy

Couples therapy differs from individual therapy. The therapist works in the interests of both partners and the relationship, maintaining neutrality, balance, and fairness.

The therapist does not take sides or act as an advocate for either partner.

Suitability for Couples Therapy

Couples therapy requires a foundation of psychological and physical safety.

Joint sessions may not be appropriate where there is:

Active domestic violence
• Coercion, intimidation, or fear
• Ongoing sexual assault or abuse
• Situations where either partner feels unsafe

Where necessary, alternative supports may be recommended.

Therapeutic Neutrality

Both partners are regarded as equal participants within the therapeutic space.

The therapist cannot favour one partner over the other and cannot become involved in disputes, investigations, or legal matters relating to the relationship.

Communication Outside Sessions

To maintain therapeutic balance and neutrality, the therapist does not engage in private therapeutic discussions with one partner outside of scheduled sessions.

Important matters should be brought into the joint therapy space.

Post-Separation Boundary

If the relationship ends, the couples therapist cannot continue therapy with one partner individually. Should individual therapy be desired, referral to another therapist will be required.

Confidentiality

All sessions are private and confidential, subject to standard legal and ethical limits, including:

Risk of serious harm to self or others
• Child protection obligations under Irish law

Records & Documentation

Therapy notes are brief clinical reflections used by the therapist to support continuity of care and the therapeutic process.

They are not transcripts, legal records, or statements of fact, and therefore are not suitable for evidential or dispute-related use.

For this reason:

Session notes are not released to either partner
• Notes are not used for legal or dispute purposes
• A statement of attendance may be provided where appropriate

Fees & Appointments

Sessions last up to 50 minutes
• Fees range from €80 – €120

Payment is required in advance. Appointments are confirmed once payment is received.

Cancellations

A minimum of 24 hours’ notice (one full business day) is required for cancellations. Late cancellations or missed sessions are charged at the full session fee.

Crisis & Emergencies

The Misneach Centre is not a crisis service. For immediate support, please contact emergency services (999 / 112) or appropriate 24-hour services.

Agreement

By proceeding with couples therapy, both partners confirm that they understand and accept the therapeutic framework and professional boundaries outlined above

Thank you for choosing The Misneach Centre Team. We look forward to supporting you both as you work towards greater understanding, communication, and clarity.
